Snowsride.com began earlier this year when we first became aware of the planning application for the housing estate. Multiple concerned residents have objected to the prospect. The application is now ‘live’ for consideration by the local authorities. Members of the local community who are directly impacted are all opposed. The developers of the housing estate speak in benign terms about how this will improve Windlesham’s way of life, and their language is wrapped up in seductive tones as if they were a community resource. In fact, the development company is owned by AXA Capital, a multi-billion pound real estate investment vehicle. The land is owned by a local family who has been trying to ‘monetise’ it for some years. We understand the commercial drivers but do not want to pay the price for their profit by sacrificing our wonderful village. We cannot rely on local democratic institutions as the developers have employed planning specialists, property lawyers, PR companies, etc., so their resources outgun the local government planning department as well as local groups and organisations. It is only by mobilising grassroots community involvement that we can get this proposal stopped or rejected.
